At least it's a mystery Buck knife to me. I was wondering what anyone knows about a Buck knife called "Akonua". Or at least that is what I think it is called. I may have the name wrong, but that is what I remember. If anyone has any info, please let me know.

Thanks
Ken

kEN,

Al Buck designed the Akonua. His son, Frank designed the Kalinga model 401 which is a little larger with more of an upswept blade. Buck made both of them for quite a few years, so there are many of both models out there. They are frequently on auction at eBay and are often described as rare, but they aren't.

Ken, you didn't say why you are curious. Do you have one? They are very nice knives for the money, although on the heavy side. I toyed with the idea of buying one for years, but I caught the custom bug first.

You can see both models at knifecenter of the internet http://www.knifecenter.com/knifecenter/buck/kalinga.html

Looks like they might still have the larger Kalinga model in stock.

Thanks for the info, the mystery is revealed. I had seen this particular knife at a local knifestore and thought it was neat looking. Was thinking of buying it, but I had never heard of it and the store didn't have any catalogs with information on it. They had also told me it was rare and I wanted to see how rare he meant. I guess this clears up a lot for me.

Again, thanks for the info.
Ken
