The other day I was cleaning up under my shop bench. I found two billets that I must have made years ago. One had chain

written on it.
It is motorcycle chain and chain saw chain.
The other billet had "wire" written on it.
I had made lots of wire or cable Damascus so that is what I expecte

d. But when I etched the blade it came out like this. It has chain in it, but I can't figure out what else is in the blade. I don't think it is wire. I don't know how I would have mixed wire with chain and it doesn't look like wire.

Stacy, that's a good thought, but I have never used barbed wire for anything. I like the way the blade turned out and wish I could figure out how I made it. I keep a notebook and write down things, but I missed what I put in that billet.

Is that cable and chain together maybe? I seem to see the cable pattern in there.

Warren, it does sort of look like cable, but I don't recall ever mixing cable and chain together and don't know how I would do it if I wanted to.
After thinking about it, the motorcycle mechanic gave me what I would call large chain, and also some small chain with the links very close together. I think maybe I mixed the large chain with the small chain.

That would make sense.

I have some tiny S10 roller chain in the shop that has very small links (1/4th the size of a bicycle chain). I set it aside years ago to put in a canister someday. I may find it again when I move things into the new shop.
