The same friend picked up this schrade knife at LL Beans a few years back. Simple, thick spine drop point blade. Nice grip..looked like a pouch shealth. Been looking, and looking...eve a t the beans site but they don't sell them anymore. Any idea where to get one?

LL bean has had knives made on contract by Schrade almost since they began making knives. Can you describe your knife any better is it a folding or sheath knife. It would seem to be a folder if it has a pouch sheath handle material, size, blade type, tang marking anything would help. If that is the case the only old pattern folding droppoint that comes to mind is the 504 which was a slight droppoint with a wide flat large blade. Bean also has knives made on contract by other companies as well are you sure this is a Schrade pattern. Attached is a picture of a 504 in sawcut made for the Old timer line. It has a lil bandit stud on it which is purchased separately and allows one handed opening. If it is a non folding sheath knife there are numerous droppoint models and that would be another whole matter.. The 504 was only made for a short time, aside from being a folding droppoint the blade style is also the closest Schrade ever made to a sunfish pattern. ( a wide flat spear blade) These were also made for special editions however it would be to lengthy to name them even if I could. Presently Schrade is making the 55 UH which is smaller and has no pouch only a lanyard hole it has a slight downward turn ( not really a droppoint ) and has made some other smaller similar folders with slight downturns including some 2 nd generation knives which was an old ( all stainless steel) line of knives they sold years ago. However the 504 is the only old large folding pattern that comes to mind that would need a full size pouch sheath. This really is a shot in the dark since I am not even sure that your reference is even a Schrade pattern. Oh yes the 507 outback model is a large folding hunter with a slight droppoint. however this is a current knife with thermoplastic rubber handles. So I do not think it was the one you are referring to. In any event which ever it is folding or sheath or whatever the answer to your question of where to find one is EBAY. Sooner or later they all show up there. If this is the wrong knife sorry it was a long shot but enjoy the picture anyway. The 504 was a nice knife and a favorite of mine. LT

Sorry didn't mean to be brief was just running late.

Nope its a fixed blade..3 1/2 inch blade...drop point. Black handle, little brass guard. Definatly a schrade as it says. Leather shealth, pouch I think they call it with belt loop. Thick spine, thicker then I've seen on knives that size.

I believe Schrade made a Loveless style skinner that sounds like you describe, I took a good look at one years ago at a Sears store in Mexico city, if I remember correctly it had a full hollow ground wide blade, full tang, the handle was probably black delrin and I think it had a wide groove on each side like for the index finger. I believe it was called the Loveless Skinner or the Loveless Hunter.

Edited to add:

I found something, this is the one I saw:

I agree with Don Luis The Lovelace or what turned into the PH-1 is probably the best candidate for what you are talking about. It does have a slight downturn and the wide blade is 3, 1/2" long it also has a brass guard. I can also testify that they were made for LL Bean because I have owned them. This style was first produced in conjunction with the knifemaker Loveless and then was and is produced as the PH 1 model I took out a few and have attached a pic. They are handled in real stag, burnt stag, wood, black and red micarta and delrin. I have only seen the LL Beans in black. A similar smaller pattern the PH-2 is also made. The stag ones are rare and for a while these were the top of the Schrade line a similar model is made in conjunction with another knife maker Barnett. I did not put one in the pic but the third one in my attachment is a loveless. These were made as special editions for a number of organizations the one on the left is an issue made for the Justice Dept the wood one on the right is for North american wild life. They are all great users but the ones in stag I feel are outstanding. I cannot think of another droppoint with a 3.5 and brass guard. They now make the PH-1 for some special Ducks unlimited editions but have not made the stag for some years. Please let us know if this is the knife. If you check back in the archives of this forum a while back there was a thread involving droppoints but they were not as yours is described still you might want to look it up. LT

AHA! Thats exactly what I was looking for. Can you still get these? Are the spines thick? What shealths do they come with?

One of these knives is on ebay right now with 6 days to run SCHRADE KNIVES PH-1 BLACK NEW KNIFE DISPLAY Item number: 3639088254 . This is a black handled version, the spine is about about 3/16" thick a little less than 1/4" . ( see attached pic which also has the sheath sheaths come in black or brown and are molded leather.) I still have a couple of sets of stag stashed new in the box with papers and no longer made. however they all bring big money especially the stag and I am sure you will do better on the one on ebay especially if you are looking for a knife to use and not to display. I do not like to sell them because you can no longer get them and they are great for trade if I find someone with an antique knife I want. which is really my main field of interest. If you have any further questions my address is lt632ret@frontiernet.net ( note the first character is a small L not the numeral ONE. I think we finaly got your question answered. Goodhunting LT
