I received one of the Extravaaagaaaazaaa mystery tube SHBM knives from the original owner in a used condition, not being a fan of the desert coating, I removed it. To my pleasant surprise, it had a very cool dull greyish finish beneath the desert coating, even the Busse Custom Shop logo looks good! I don't know if this the color it is when it comes out of heat treat, but it is smooth and really goes well with the black/grey micarta scales.

:D

YOU DID WHAT?
You know, it's funny what's underneath the coatings. I have the newest AD (bought second hand) that has an almost satin undercoat. I was very surprised. Perhaps it didn't make the cut with the satin finish and someone just decided to slap coating on it instead. I recieved it as a defective knife. The previous owner had barely used it, and a good sized area of coating around the tip just flaked off. I think this happened because this knife probably has an unusually smooth uncoat. I think this was just a rare exception to that rule.

See Tim, I told you I thought the laser etch would still be evident after you stripped the coating. :)

That looks pretty cool.

What means did you use to remove the finish? Was it the black finish to start with?

It was a desert tan coating

Thank you. I started to look into these a couple years ago, but kid's braces and car repairs put them on the back burner.

Isn't there another site like mistermojo or something that has pictures of Busse knives?

I went to the Busse site recently, and only saw 1 or 2 knives for sale. Are they for sale on the mistermojo site also? Are there more models available?

Sorry for the 20 questions, just need some guidance now that some money has been loosened up for a couple toys.

Thanks,
FB

I use acetone and a small stainless steel wire brush, just soak the blade and gently brush off the coating (be sure and wear gloves and a well ventalated area). It had a desert coating.

Hey FB! FYI badmojo doesn't sell knives, it just shows them off. Go to the company store using the link Peter posted or check the exchange here on the forum. You could even post over there for a particular model you are interested in.
