My brother was lucky enough to purchase a well used SOG fixed blade from the Johannesburg War Museum. The knife is identical to my S21 SOG Government Agent with some minor differences:
a) The rubber handle has a DPM camo pattern
b) It came with 2 sheaths, one in black nylon and another nylon one in the same DPM camo.
The salesman said that this knife was used by the Navy Seals and, oh well, the knife came in a SOG box for an S37 Navy Seal. According to all I have seen, the SOG Seal 2000 is the model S37, so I'm guessing that he got the wrong box, but it was the only SOG box they had. I don't know how much stock to put in the salesman "Navy Seal" knife pitch. Nevertheless, it was a good buy.
What I'd like to know, was this a "military issue" knife? If so, to which units? Was this ever offered on the civilian market in the camo form?
If I can get hold of a digital camera I'll take a pic. This knife has seen some very hard use, but I'm thinking about having the scratches buffed out. Is this a collectable, or can I go ahead and have it fixed up?
