This problem bugged me for a long time.
On some of my belts I noticed that They have bulges running lengthwise
close to each end. Because of these bulges belt is not flat and doesn't give a nice flat grind. (BTW Trizact is immune to this problem)

Today I just found what causing it. Two rollers above and below platen on my KMG are less than 2" wide. I tend to tighten my belts pretty good so some belts get stretched around edges of these rollers. Rob Frink should probably use rollers that are little bigger than 2" wide to eliminate this problem.

I'll try to tighten my belts less.
Does anyone with non KMG has similar problem?

Thanks,
Alex

Never had this poroblem. I use Square Wheel, Bader, Burr King. Allhave rubber coated wheels. Mike

Guys with non KMG grinders can you please measure width of your upper and lower platen rollers? I would really appreciate it.

I probably over tighten my belts somewhat but if I ty to have it loose sometimes my belt goes off the platen if I press too hard while
grinding.

I only have this bulging problem with finer grit belts.
Trizact no matter what grit doesn't have this problem. Cubitron in 36, 50 and 80 grit is also OK.

Belts don't develop this problem right away. You need to run them for a little bit. I use to think that when a belt starts
grinding uneven(happens pretty soon) it's worn in some places and some places are still cutting. But now I am pretty
sure it's these bulges that won't me let even grind.
