My goodness. So many new choices coming out lately. Truly a wonderful predicament for my next decision on what to buy!
 
On my phone ATM, how would one normally acquire the N-SAR? LE and Military I assume?

Previously, it was available only to Navy personnel. My research was that it was supposed to be available only to Naval search and rescue personnel, but I'm not sure how strictly that was controlled, and I don't know if anyone in the Navy, or anyone in the other branches, could get it if they tried.

Of course, it was also occasionally available on eBay and in other places. AZCK has had one up for a few weeks at about $330, and I believe one was listed on eBay for $600 at one point, though I'm not sure if that sold or not.

Earlier this week, (without getting into specifics) I contacted Emerson and explained that the features that made this a great knife for Naval S&R personnel also make it a good option for civilian EMS/rescue. I'm glad they agreed. And the irony is I can't even afford one just now! But hopefully in a week or two.
 
How does it look closed? Is it possible to use the hook cutter with the blade closed?
