Hi Folks,

This is a nice community you all have here. I am a complete and utter knifemaking noob and was wondering if there is anyone on the forum from the Raleigh, NC area. If so, can you tell me if there are any groups/clubs that meet? I'd like to talk to some folks - maybe see some of them do some work and ask a bunch of questions :)

Also, my apologies if this isn't posted in the correct area.

Thanks!

Might want to try the local Blacksmith associations. I am not from NC, but welcome to the forums! Alot of great info can be had here, also there are stickies at the top of the page that go over alot of info! :D

Hi Jake - I'm in Raleigh. I just moved here and don't have a shop set up, probably won't for some time. Anyways, the NC Custom Knifemaker's Guild meets several times a year (you just missed their most recent meeting, and so did I) in Troy, which is not far from us. There are also several makers within driving distance of here and I'm sure you can find one or two who'll let you stop by and talk knives with them some time. When I first joined the guild I just started calling folks near me and asking them if they'd mind me seeing their shops and picking their brains, everyone was quite receptive. I believe you can still find a member list on the website:

Thank you, folks. I've been reading the stickies like crazy for the last couple of days. Lots and lots of info...

It seems that they've removed the contact info from the member's list. I'm not sure who the current president is, but it used to be Bill Bisher, so you might try contacting him to find out if he can put you in touch with people in the Raleigh area. Tim Scholl is just down the road and is a crazy-nice guy who I would suggest emailing.
