I bought 3 pieces of steel last year in 154CM, ATS134, and S30V...all from CPM and all intended to for me to hack away on with saw and file. I've worked on this blade off and on over the months, but the total time spent is probably 4 weeks. This blade is in 154CM.

I can't tell if the bevels are filed down enough, but I am getting sick of looking at the thing and want to send it off to the heat treaters. One place I screwed up was a bolster hole I drilled way to fast and the steel hardened up and started breaking or otherwise defeating drill bits. I have some micarta handle scaled roughed out and ready to bolt on if the blade survives the heat treat.

Looks pretty good from here! One thing that I can't tell from the pictures is how rough the surface on the bevels is. You may want to hand sand it a bit to smooth things out before sending it for HT. It'll save you some elbow grease when it comes back.

Let us see it when it's done!

If you plan on pinning any metal in the guard area, you may want to drill a couple of holes in this area before you send it to ht.

Thanks dudes....I definitely will sand the blade down before the HT. I also plan to file/sand down the edge so it isn't so thin. I'll file down the bevels for another 3 days worth (3 hours), smooth out the marks, and off to TKS she goes. All this gives me greater appreciation for all the makers. If I win the lotto, I'm buying a nice KMG belt grinder!

I am still grinding on an inexpensive dremel 1X30. I have a knifemaker friend around the corner with a KMG that I have used from time to time when we are sharing quality creative time in his shop. It is so very nice, and I will eventually have a better grinder. But, for now, I'm able to do quality work on the 1X30, it's just a lot slower going. It's faster than hand filing and hand sanding though. Keep up the good work, it's looking very nice!

Maquahuitl, great knife!
I have one suggestion: avoid sharp corners, such as where guard meets blade & handle. Full hardened blade can easily break here, if you chop hard. You can make small radius with round file.
