I'm beginning to get into fishing. Which of the two steels in the title would make a better knife for use on the water. It would either be a BM Griptilian in N680 or a Spyderco Salt in H1. The question is more about the blade steel than the knife in general. Thanks!

Well as far as edge retention goes, H1 SE will have the best then N680 PE or SE, then H1 PE, both will be easy to sharpen, H1 is pretty much rust proof, N680 is very rust resistant, if its fresh water fishing I'd say either will do just fine for rust resistance, if salt water I'd go H1 if you plan on zero upkeep, N680 would probably be fine if you just ran some fresh water through it at the end of the day.

H1 has no rust problems at all. I had one (dropped it in the ocean but it may still be pretty clean no clue lol) N680 is okay ish I guess, Try adding the option of N690Co (Fox knives/Fox Knives USA) it has edge retention around the way of 154cm from experience. and its very resistant.

N680 is under rated, I use it constantly in my Bm111 as my dive knife, and its works fine after several hours under salt water. a light rinse and a dry rag will keep any problems away, also haven't seen any problems with the hardware

N680 holds an edge better than H1. N680 is very rust resistant

H1 will resist rust better than N680. H1 is EXTREMELY rust resistant.

My vote is the Spyderco H1 Salt. I own two of them, a PE & SE. Both have been in saltwater and I've had zero problems with rust.

H1 DOESN'T rust, it's not just rust resistant, it can't rust.

So if you're the type of person that regularly maintains your tools and gear, it's a toss up. BUT if you're the kinda guy that sometimes forgets or just doesn't want to hassle wih maintinace, get the Spyderco H1.
