I bought a BM Monochrome which looks like a great lower end knife. Blade steel is N690. What are the characteristics of this steel? Thanks.

N690 is similar to 440c it is made by Bohler in Austria. It is a very good stainless and is heat-treated just about right in the Benchmade knives. A number of Australian Knifemakers have used it with good results.

I can't 100% agree.

It was already HERE for example.

I own a monochrome, and I'm very satisfied with it.
N690 has a good edge retention, sharpening is not a big problem.

Yes, it's great ;)

N690 is similar to VG-10. Takes a fine edge and holds it for an extended period of time. But from my personal experience, I'd say that its corrosion-resistance is lower than VG-10's.

Yes, the Monochrome offers a lot of bang for the buck.
