Has anyone had any experience with N690 steel? I need someone to tell me if they had any problem with rust.

I used a bit of VG10 for a knife, same basic composition as N690. My only advice is to get it to final finish grit before heat treat. Seriously abrasion resistant, just about laughed at Rhynowet. I've had the blade about 6 months with no rust, although I haven't used it for anything either.

I haven't gotten it wet but it's a very nice steel ,like VG-10 , as good as you can get without going to powder steels. My test was as a EDC forover 6 months !

Thanks, also anyone know how to treat it? A knife maker said it chips easily. I read on bohlers recommendation to cryo treat it and I'm not sure if that's optional.

I have used it many times.

Be sure to have it cryoed to get the most out of it.

It is a very good stainless for blades.

I would not use the words "chips easily" to describe N690. The cobalt gives the steel additional toughness.

Follow Bohlers heat treat recipe, cryo and temper back to HRC 59-60 and it will work well.

Yeah he said it chipped when he tried cutting brass rod. I don't think it's smart to use metal on metal, also he didn't cryo treat it.
