Nagura Stone uses?

I have the following water stones and would like to know if the Nagura stone is recommended to be used with each. Many times it seems to stick to the surface from the water I'm guessing. Seems to create a type of vacuum between the two.

Chosera 600
Nariwa Aotoshi 2K green brick
King 1000/6000
Arashiyama 6000

Thanks,
Ron

6000 would be the only one I used it one , now you minght could clean your 1k with it , but I wouldnt use the slurry, for slurry build up , just work some up with a diamond hone or sandpaper, you might could use the nagura on 2k but I would stick with 4k and higher, Nagura is used to clean your stone as well as build up a slurry and clean your stone do you have artificial or natural nagura

I do use the Nagura with the Chosera 600 as I believe some come with it. Also on the King. I use DMT extra course to flatten the stones.

All depends on the nagura. The chosera nagura is just a basic red brick stone cut into pieces. I think is a 600 or 1000 grit and best if used to clean the surface, which is the basic role of a synthetic nagura.

Natural nagura or chunks of natural stones (toma nagura) can be used to form slurries/mud on the stone that can be useful in sharpening. It helps prevent loading of the stone and can be used to refine the finish of the sharpened edge.

Best used with your Naniwa 2k and Arashiyama 6k.

P.S. cutting small grooves in the nagura stone will stop it from sticking.

Knifenut,
It does produce a slurry the color of the stone I am using it on. I will try the cuts to get rid of the suction that it causes. Thanks for the info.

If its a synthetic nagura than you can use it to clean the surface of hifher grit stones.
On coarser stones you can raise a mud that will make coarser synthetics slightly more aggresive. On your final passes on these stones id suggest rinsing the slurry off and using a clean stone with lots of water.

With naturals this becomes a whole nother can of worms :)
