OK

so...i bought one of these at the local megalo mart

A 4 in one nail buffer. It does a decent job putting an edge on my knives and polishing them up. Also, it is set onto a sponge like material and has some give to it...should be the same thing as sandpaper and mousepad for convexing..right? As a bonus..it fits in my lansky sharpening kit. Dunno if you have every used one, but it is pretty good IMO especially for an expedient sharpener sub $2.

My wife and daughter have one or two of those floating around the house. They're very lightweight too.
Never tried one on a knife but I can't see any reason it wouldn't work.

They work very well with convex edges but only with smaller blades-for some reason my old SAK responds very well to a quick buff.

I hit my BK11 on it and it did it good. also hit up and convexed one of my wifes Kuhn Rikon paring knives..thing is pretty freaking sharp now
I dont think i would ever rely solely on the 4in1 but it does ok in a pinch so to speak...and for the money is a cant loose... YMMV

Just saw that they also make one that is pink and black...if it corresponds to the files in pink and black then the block will be of different grits...ie more gritty

Also, i dont think this will last very long. But, for the price it still is a good deal IMO

Here is the pink/black

Good post. I have done the same thing, but I carry the flat-type of board that is the same material. (don't know the proper name, just that I stole it from my wife...) like you say, works in a pinch and is easy to carry.

I hear ya cheekser! What brought about the idea of getting it is using my wife's emery boards! Great minds! :D
