Nail nick or not?

I'm building a large trapper pattern slip-joint. There is enough of the blade left exposed to not need a nail nick, you can just grab the blade and pull it open. Does a knife really need one? Should I just put one for ashetics?
Thanks,
Chuck

Here's a vote for yes. Just a fan of the nick, no matter how large the blade on a slipjoint.

A vote for yes.
Maybe even a "Matchstriker" nick, if it's gonna be rugged looking.

The yes's have it. I will post pics when it's done. Right now it has a 4inch raindrop pattern damascus blade. It will have front and rear matching raindrop pattern damascus bolsters and goldlip pearl scales.

Thanks,
Chuck

A custom trapper w/o nail nick would be a hard sell. I wouldn't buy it. Also nail nicks are hard to do correctly, thus it's also sign of a maker who's got it all together when it comes to slipjoints.

In addition, I notice you screw together a lot of your knives, you may want to pin your trapper. Pesonnaly, for slipjoints, I like 'em pinned and I believe that is true for most people. However, a screwed-together trapper would be unusual and may help it sell.

Yup i vote for the matchstriker nail nick too.....it just wouldn't look right without a nail nick

I don't mind a lockback without a nail nick, but a slipjoint must have a nail nick, as far as I'm concerned.

You will never be sorry you have one and will be sorry if you don't. That is the best answer I can come up with...
