What custom makers use nail nicks like the one shown on this Remington ?

I have zero nails left and find these the easiest to open , 50 grit grinding belts tend to remove nails ( and fingerprints ).

appreciate any suggestions. Open to higher end productions as well.

thanks.

Bose of course, and Ken Erickson. Jerry Halfrich does one on his 1253 Remington.

I imagine most any maker could if the blade pattern can accommodate a long nail pull.

Why not get an easy-opener??
No nick required!!

Alternately, you could get a twist-ring pocketknife. Does anyone (besides custom makers) even make these anymore? I'd imagine a custom maker would be happy to accommodate you.

Several makers still exist, I think Opinel is the easiest to find. (May be I misunderstand what a twist-ring mechanism is, though.) Opinel is also one of the few manufacturers who still make a lot of carbon steel blades. To me, that's a bonus. :)

What about a single bladed knife that can be pinched open?
I have a Queen slimline trapper and a cooperhead, both can be pinched open.

This one can be pinched open because it has enough blade showing and nail nicks on BOTH sides:

I had a Case Bose 2000 Millenium , awesome knife , I couldnt open it for the life of me without looking like a monkey trying to hump a greased football. ;)

Anyone happen to have a Case Mini Copperlock who can tell me what the blade length is ? I see the OAL is 3 5/8.

I will start searching the custom makers. Thanks for all the info thus far.

Steinar, you're thinking of a ring-lock (I love Opinels, btw). ;)

This is an example of a twist ring knife.

Mini Copperlock blade is 2 5/8 from bolster to tip, 2 7/16 cutting edge. They have the long pull of course, but you don't need it. There's enough blade sticks out of the handle that you can just grab the blade and open it. At least that's the way I've always opened Copperlocks and Minis.

Jeff Claiborne uses these on his larger slippies.

Also on some of his not-so-large slippies. I'm currently carrying a half-congress from Jeff that measures 3 5/8" closed; it has long pulls on both blades.

Both Joel Chamblin and Bill Ruple use that long nail nick on some of the patterns they make..........can't go wrong with Ken either.
