Nail nicks?

How are nail nicks put in the blade on slip joints? Can I buy some kind of dremel tool bit and do my own by hand? How do the custom knife makers do theirs? Want to start making knives and this is one of the few tools that I do not have on hand. I would also like to redo some nail nicks on knives that are too small. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

If I'm not mistaken, I think some makers use a bit in a milling machine to cut nail nicks. It would probably be pretty hard to do freehand with a dremel and have it look good, especially on a blade that is already hardened.

You might want to ask in the shop talk forum in the makers section. There are lot of knowledgeable and talented makers here on the forum that would know a lot more about it. There is also a lot of good info in there for someone who is interested in making knives.
