Could I apply clear nail polish under the handle scales of my CPM M4 Mule? Is it a good protectant and how long would it stay there? Blade already has a patina on it.

If the blade already has a patina, it would be unnecessary. I also doubt that it would do much to protect it.

How are your scales attached? I assume just screws. Do you want to be able to remove the scales? If you take them off and put a layer of something you might have gaps if it is something viscous like finger nail polish. I would just paint the tang if you want to remove the scales. With finger nail polish I would be worried it would chip and expose the steel. If you wanted them permanently attached you could epoxy them like custom makers do but that is probably more work than you are looking for and requires some skill. I would paint them with some primer if you are worried about corrosion.

another way to weather proof your M4 mule tang is to unbolt the scales and coat the tang in vaseline, then reassemble. wipe off any excess after reassembly.
