I took the wifes car to the store and nailed a skunk.
Well, I think I did...the car stinks now.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell?
I already took it to the closest car wash and gave it a good hosing of the undercarriage.

The only good thing...actually there are several good things.
It wasn't my truck.:p
It was a small skunk.
An I'm sure the jerk tailgating me got a good dose too.:D

Anyway, any help on getting rid of the smell would be appreciated. Especially by my wife.
She's not going to be happy in the morning.:(

I've never had any real experience with skunks, but I've heard that tomato juice like V8 can clean the smell off

Forget tomato juice.

A quart of hydrogen peroxide in 3 quarts of hot water with liquid soap mixed in. It worked great on the neighbor's dog even if she didn't like it much and you have to keep it out of their eyes. :)

It won't be easy washing under the car, maybe a big spray bottle of some sort. At least with the car, rinsing isn't as critical.

I have a little gallon tank sprayer that will work.

Hot water and soap to remove the oils. Hydrogen pyroxide to help eliminate the odor.
Shouldn't harm the paint?

My wife works at a veterinary clinic and this is the formula they use:

Skunk Deodorant Formula
1) Quart Peroxide
2) 2 Tablespoon Dawn Dish Soap
3) ¼ Cup Baking Soda

run over a truck load of lemons, tomatoes, hydrogen peroxide and liquid soap.
then when the car is totaled you won;t have the smell anymore.

Find a big drained in ground pool, fill it with 10,000 cans of tomato juice and drive the sucker in, soak for 12 hours or however long it takes to get a divorce lawyer, your gonna need one, remember ya just drove yer wife's car into a pool full of tomato juice, nah just kiddin' the peroxide, Dawn and hot water works best.

Throw a large box of baking soda in with the peroxide and soap and warm water. Works great on dogs---KV

It dosn't matter what you use, your gonna end up buying her a new car. Weather the smell goes away or not, she will think she can still smell it. :D

If it's a newer rig it may have an interior air filter (somewhere under the dash?)....

Don't forget to CHANGE it after you "de-funk" the outside of the vehicle.

If it still stinks after all the cleaning suggested here, go buy two of those yellow, LEMON scented, air fresheners (NOT THE GREEN, PINE SCENTED ones... has to be the YELLOW, LEMON scented ones), and try to roll them up length-wise as tightly as possible (so that they are about the diameter of a dime or LESS if possible).

Once rolled up very tightly, have the wife put one up each nostril while she is driving the vehicle (DON'T let her try this with the green, pine scented one's because they will probably clash with her complection... NOTHING green EVER looks "OK" hanging out of a womans nose.... and you know how women can be about their looks). As I assume you are a man, the green, pine scented ones are fine for us men... what do we care what color ANYTHING is, that's hanging our of our noses? Am I right, or am I right?:D

Seriously... change the interior air filter.

I actually prefer to wear the green, and other earth tone colors, in my nose to match the rest of my outfit. :D

Do you realize where this thread would be going if you posted "Nailed a skunk" in the Cove or W&C?;):D
