Two pairs of naked couples were inserted in two different areas this time - and joined forces midway through the two hour show. Blame the end of the fall 'Walking Dead' series for my choosing this 'entertainment' last night. One of the 'participants' ended up with Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne virus, adding a sour postscript to the episode. No survival skills, to speak of, were demonstrated, making me miss the 'Survivorman', 'Dual Survivor', 'Man, Woman, Wild', and even Bear Grylls. Anyone else watch the two naked couples 'soap opera' and get something from it??

I think you summed it up pretty well. I didn't see this episode, but I did catch a few episodes. It's reality tv/conflict built around a survival theme. In the end its too much man butt for me.

Interesting subject matter that could make for an excellent show but Discovery butchers it. If they didn't flip flop constantly back and forth between the two couples throughout the entire program, and would just split the show into two separate programs it would be a great show. But after watching it for 10 minutes and the tweets constantly running along the bottom of the screen I hit delete. I am watching less Discovery channel all the time and may simply drop the sattelite subscription and go back to rabbit ears.

The only one of these I ever watched features a petite girl that had learned tropical survival skills from living in Hawaii and a Military guy that severely over estimated his survival skills being placed on a deserted island. They spent 21 days, and the guy ended up getting severe sunburn and being useless for the first week. He was a prick to the girl that basically saved his life, and never got around to recognizing her superiority until he forced her to help him kill an eel (at one point he got disentary after ignoring her warnings not to drink unfiltered water). After ignoring her warnings that the rocks were sharp he cut his foot and couldn't pursue the eel, but luckily the girl ended up taking charge and killing it. He realized how weak he was, assumed a more submissive role, and they finished out their time much better and healthier.

It was interesting to watch the better equipped girl that would never have wanted to take on a leadership role eventually assume a leadership role naturally. The ego of the soldier couldn't have played out better if it was a written script, but the show still lacked something... possibly entertainment.

I remember this episode. I felt bad for her having to take care of the rude ass that was useless to her. I'd be more than happy to "suffer" on an island with her any day :D Cute as a button and knew what she was doing

I missed the new 2 hour opener but I did record it. Now ya'll have me second guessing watching it and not being able to get 2 hours of my life back :o I do think the show is interesting but I wish it could be more realistic by them having at least some basic camping gear and setting up scenarios of being lost or stranded and not necessarily having marked objectives that they have to reach or else (or else, what?).

It could have been good if they focused on how the one woman still got sick despite her skills and showed how the lack of skills that the other girl (that was obviously only there because of her looks) possesses affected the group. Instead it was the same stupid reality tv bs. Dual Survivor got worse too. The new guy and cody have non stop silly arguments instead of attempting to work together. Too bad. I liked David Canterbury.

Despite all that sucks about this series I just can't stop watching it for some reason....

I'm always thinking...could I do better REALLY and what would I take...a firesteel or a machete...

The lady that got sick got Dengue Fever which is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of the white legs mosquito (Aedes Egitpy). It is fairly common in Central and South America, in fact I know several people that have had it and all of them live in suburbs of major cities.

There is not much that you can do to avoid getting ill, besides trying to eliminate the mosquitoes which being hard in some urban places is almost impossible in the wild.

In some cases the Dengue Fever can become hemorrhagic and that is when it becomes very dangerous producing internal bleeding and in extreme cases even death. What I have not seen yet is the aftermath that she got with the sickness attacking her joints and limiting her mobility, however I am not a doctor so I-m probably not up to speed.

Best Regards.

I read that hers did turn into Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, at first the DR.'s back in LA thought she was anemic, and then she started bleeding from around her teeth. She was in the hospital for weeks, and still has a lot of rehab according to some articles.

Stuff sounds like something I wouldn't wish on anyone!

I've been in some areas where Dengue is present, and seen people come down with it. It's ain't fun. You're getting off easy if you get horrible muscle aches and extreme lingering headaches to go along with the malaise.

Okay I saw 1 hr 45 minutes of the show and then I fell asleep on my couch and missed the ending last night. I think I missed the part where one of them gets sick? Everyone seemed to do a good job except the "barbie" girl. I liked the baskets that Manu made and I LMAO when Forrest went out and ate to his hearts content on the beach while "barbie" sat all disgruntled at the camp getting hungry.

Entertainment? Sure. Survival skills? Of course. Wish I could go? Definitely

It wasn't actually part of the show, they tell you about it at the end. She (Manu Toiga) didn't fall sick, until 3 days after returning to Los Angeles, after filming for the episode ended.

another guy have brought goggles ..... and it took him 20 days to catch 2 lobsters and 1 fish for 4 people
barbie was good on the eyes but that is about all she was good for :)

man I cannot wait for new episodes of survivorman
