Here's a couple of shots of a BK-9 I refinished. The gray color and map etching is a result of several apple cider vinegar treatments followed by a buffing with 000 steel wool. These aren't the greatest photos in spite of numerous tries. Anyway, let me know what you think!

I originally took it to a mirror polish but hated the way it looked. For some reason it made it look like a plastic toy. So this ain't getting any shinier than it is now.

Pretty cool. If Blackjack ever made the Becker Combat Bowie, that's what it would have looked like. Are you going to leave it that way? Do you use the factory sheath with that one?

- Photo tip - Photograph the knife out of the direct light of the sun or other light source. Shooting pics in the shade, indoors **without** using on-camera flash, or other diffuse-lighting locations reduces the contrast greatly. The reduced contrast will show off contours and subtle shadings on the knife better than shooting in direct light. For many good tips 'n techniques of photographing knives, follow the link in my sig below.

- Patina tip - For a nice dark all-over gunmetal grey patina, boil cheap white vinegar from the grocery store in a pan. Then submerge the clean blade in the hot vinegar for ten minutes. After the ten-minute soak, rinse off the blade, dry it, and coat with oil.

Click here to see some pictures of patina that I did on an A2 steel knife with Miracle Whip and vinegar.

Yeah, I think It's going to stay that way. I really kind of like it.
I have the factory sheath which I'm not crazy about, mainly because it's green. I would really prefer black and I understand there are dyes for nylon. Will maybe try that first before ordering a Kydex.

Your hard work makes it unique. Good job! I've also used Birchwood Casey gun blue for interesting blade effects.

I'd also recommend David Brown if you are looking for a Kydex. He may have some pre-made so you won't have to wait. He did a great job on my RD9 sheath.

Thanks. I used Birchwood Casey blueing years ago on a .22 rifle and it worked very well. I will try that on my next knife project. Thanks for the tip on the sheath, as well.
I'm going to work on getting some better pics soon as those really do stink.:barf:

I always shoot my photos in the morning and in the shade. I get some decent results with the natural lighting. The morning shade keeps the lighting subdued and the images aren't so harsh. I have some lattice on my deck that also gives some nice effects.

looking forward to seeing the new ones.
