Well, not being one for leaving things alone, I stripped the black crinkle finish off of the HD I received from the Busse store today. Mine measured .205 with the finish and .193 naked. As a comparison, the AD measures .147. The black canvas micara is actually pretty grey in color ( it will probably darken with use) and goe well with the dull grey finish that is under the black crinkle finish, the etched Busse logo is still there. I will leave the sides of the blade as is (it will be a user, so I don't want to spend any time on them making them better just to dull them up) and give the spine a satin finish. Sorry if the pictures are big, but it gives you a good close up!

:D

Tim - Great pics. You're a bigger man than I am for stripping that. It appears to be pretty smooth under the coating, not a lot, if any dimples.

BTW, That PD I got from you, I had big plans for stripping and bead blasting. Didn't go so well. Lot's of dimples, and fairly deep ones. Going to go for a complete recoat on that one.

That grip looks like it would be quite comfortable. It is hard to judge such things by looking at a picture though. So let me ask: How comfortable and secure is it? Do you have large or small hands? I ask this because I have tendonitis and need to be careful about grip shape. I also have small hands.

I like the grip shape on my Howling Rat. It fits my hand well.:) But I don't like the way the knife feels when I choke up to use the choil on the rear of the blade.:barf:

It is strange how the steel looks different depending on what finish is used. Under the black crinkle it looks dull grey but under the jungle camo the blade was a dull silver and almost shiny.

Did you use the Jasco stuff?

That looks nice!

I wasn't taking much of a risk on a knife that cost $167 that was going to be a user anyways, besides, it is a Busse, what is going to go wrong with it?

That PD was a variant, and if you have it re-coated, have them do it the same way, it is worth more, I have pictures if you need them.

Great pics. I'm really hoping to score an HD from the store. It looks like it's a nice size, Like you would get a lot of use out of it.
