I'm going to order a Naked Hippo from Gene Ingram. Do I want it in D2 or S30V?

Thanks,

gary

Are you going to carry it or use it? For what? Damp climate or dry? I've found my D2 from Camillus and Dozier are so corrosion resistant, it might as well be called stainless, though.

Both such good steels it's probably a coin toss, I like D2, there's plenty of S30V in my collection already.

It really depends on where you live, I personally would go with d2 but I live in a pretty dry area.

I will be carrying and using the knife, otherwise I'd spring for the micarta handled version (just to pretty to carry). It'll just be a handy little knife used for general cutting. I'm in California so humidity is not an issue.

In my own personal test I have found S30V to outperform D2, so my choice would be S30V.

I never thought I'd see the words "naked" and "hippo" together in a sentence, but here we are...

I've have lots of good luck with S30V. The stuff seems relatively easy to sharpen and can be made quite sharp. Can't really say anything with D2, since I haven't handled it, but I like that orange-peel texturing that is so unique to D2.
