Paul,

Go to the local hardware store and get any heavy duty stripper. I like the gel based stuff best. It comes off real easily after soaking a minute or two. At most, you may have to scrape a little w/a plastic putty knife.

Do it in a ventilated area...

yep, that's it - stripper gel, and I actually had to use 150 wet/dry on some of the tougher spots, and then 320 wet/dry to get to this state.

I cleaned the strip gel gunk using a plastic paint scraper and mineral spirits to wash it off.

I'll steadily move up the grittiness just to see - I'm curious as this is my first stripping project.
