A while back I scored a Tops Tracker and the Hedgehog sheath for a steal.

I know the Tracker reputation but it's quite a knife for what I got it for and with the hedgehog sheath quite a package for the woods.

BUT upon receiving it there were things I didn't like right away.

The "crinkle" black coating, which so many production knives seem to come with had to go, hate it.

The biggest problem was the edge geometry. It was ground like an axe blade. Literally it looked and felt like an axe edge. I knew that no matter how sharp I got it with that thick edge it wouldn't be very useful except for hacking brush.

So I brought it to knifemaker Lamont Coombs. He put a bead blasted finish on it and reground it to a more knifelike edge and resharpened it. And according to Lamont it now "cuts like hell" I hope to be able to pick it up tommorow and then I will post a review of it over the weekend (theres some fatwood stumps on my property I believe) and show some better pics of the reground edge (I believe he hollow ground it) till then here's a teaser pic and a "before" pic.

Looks nice, that hedgehog sheath is about the nicest sheath you can buy! Congrats.

very nice.

I have to get me one of these, I hated them at first, but the more i see them i want one/

Yeah the sheath was the deal sealer. In the end even after the mods it will have cost me less for the knife and the hedgehog sheath than the cost of the knife alone would be. Too good of a deal to pass up. The knife had issues but I think now it will be a fine large camp/chopper.

That sheath really is the bee's knees.

I've always wondered how that knife would work if it had scandi in the lower part, heavily narrowed full flat convex towards the tip and the sawback was taken away.

Originally we were going to try to take the "hump" out of the belly(?) but we couldn't figure out how to do it and not take away too much of the meat of the knife. I like the sawback for it's ability to make notches and break wire so it doesn't bother bother me. The axe like edge did, so I think now that Lamont has fixed it I can live with the "hump" I will know more about how i feel when I get it today. I will be gone all weekend (fantasy baseball draft night saturday so I will be hung over Sunday ;) ) But expect pictures and a review of it cutting, chopping, slicing ect. by monday night
