I know you all will jump all over me, but Im kind of on the outs here anyway.

Personally (and I know, I can go pound sand) I respectfully don't care for it. Honestly it seems a little odd to me that RAT/ESEE prides themselves on being an American company, built in America, by Americans and all that and now the name is an acronym for Spanish words. Im not trying to be exclusionary or jingoistic. Just one guy's (who doesn't matter) opinion.

And yes, I know I don't have to buy them if I don't want them... I know how well made the products are... I know that the name doesn't affect the fact that they are tools... and I know that ESEE is a great survival school.

Eh. Maybe Im just grumpy this morning. But since I am home sick I thought I would just go ahead and make everyone here mad. :)

I think it's a great nod to the well of ideas for these knives. Yes they are American made, but they're Latin jungle inspired. The concepts for these knives are born in the heads of men tromping through the Peruvian jungle.

Well put.

Not everyone is going to like the change but it's really the decision of Jeff and Mike and you have to remember where they spend half their time and what their lives revolve around.

This ESEE thing is a huge part of them.

The US does not have a national language contrary to what most like to think. Three hundred years from now we'll all be speaking Spanglish. Go pound that sand you were talking about.:D

300 years from now, we are likely to be speaking Mandarin Chinese just so we can communicate with the rest of the developed world. Maybe we should start stamping the knives now to avoid confusion.
However, it is somewhat jingoistic to bitch and moan about Spanish on a knife. All but three of my Spyderco's are from Japan - and those words clearly aren't English.

I can kinda understand where you are coming from jeff_c. Personally, I like the new name (maybe because I'm half Spanish :p).

Seriously though, it's just a name. What really counts is integrity and we all know Jeff and Mike are serious about that. They make great products and offer great customer service. In this day and age, of out-sourcing and the like, that's better than what most offer.

I'd rather it be made in the USA and have Spanish words, than made in Spain with English words.

The ES is Spanish, the EE is English, Escape & Evasion.
Everybody's welcome around here. :)

Really? are we really STILL talking about this? We all seriously need more time in the woods.

Amazing. If it wasn't for South America and some Spanish speaking SF instructors willing to help us out there would have never even been such a thing as Randall's Adventure & Training, much less all the 100 percent USA MADE knives we have produced. Our roots are indeed in Latin America working with Spanish speaking people as wel as a lot of Indian dialects. We are very PROUD of that and the people who have worked with us down there. We will continue to go back and that part of the world will continue to influence Randall's Adventure & Training. We are also VERY proud that our knives are made in the USA by Americans that give a damn. 'Nuff said.

I never said that no one was welcome.

I even said I was not trying to be exclusionary or jingoistic.

I offered my opinion and an observation on the name change.

I dont see how this is any more silly of a post than any other.

Sure, I dont expect the fine gents at ESEE to change just for little old me. And no one asked me. Thats fine. Again, just my opinion.

I dont like new name... does that change anything for you all? no

Hey, I dont think the Jungala should have a choil either... again, just an opinion.

And the Junglas doesn't have a choil :D

All is cool, brother jeff. No worries ;)

yes Sir, i know no choil... Someone brought that up the other day, that they wanted a choil. Again, it was just that persons opinion.

Yeah, I get the roots in Latin America. And hey, your company, your name. Just thought I would voice a thought. Probably just shouldnt have since I wasnt asked, and as I stated it wouldn't make a difference anyway. Your company, your school, your knives, your name.

And I never said I didn't "give a damn". I have 3 knives from the company formerly known as RAT. ;). GREAT tools and they have all been used well in the field. I like your products and you school. Im sorry I voiced a contrary thought.

I didnt mean to make anyone unhappy.

jeff, as I said, all is cool. No worries.

In the end it comes down to the opinion of the knife makers (Jeff & Mike), you know because it's their business and they can call it whatever the hell they want. I really don't know why people are so fascinated with a name, it's the same company with the same products plus more on the way.

I know people don't like change, but seriously it's just a name. Get over it.
