Hello there, back in 1998 a serial killer, an ex-marine, took me to a seculed place and threatened me with a knife. I kept him talking for hours and he finally let me go and turned himself in a few days later. I've searched dozens of websites and books looking for the knife he used and I can't find it. Can any body help? The blade was unusual in that the cutting edge was regular smooth type and tipped slightly upward at the end. But the back of the blade had a very sharp angled sawtoothed type edge. Very deed almost 45 degree angles. The blade was between 6 to 9 inches long, hard to say because it looked so big at the time, and about an inch to two inches wide. I couldn't tell if it was a folding knife or not. He kept it in his jacket under the armpit area and could easily put it away or whip it out in less than a second. He told me it could cut anything! Wood, metal, plastic and especially bone. I've searched and searched and haven't seen anything that looks close to this type of blade. Please help! I need to find it so hopefully I will stop having nightmares about it. Thanks!

Is this a joke?

If not I recommend you seek psychiatric counseling- It isnt the knife that gives you nightmares, it would be the mental trauma from the threat of bodily harm. If you really want to know about the knife, contact the authorities who should still have the thing in an evidence locker somewhere.

Still, I smell BS.

Yeah, Well the authorities in charge of the case at the time was Humboltd County Sheriff and they screwed things up so badly. The case got transferred to San Bernardino and he's still awaiting trial, it's been 7 years. They act like there is no such knife but I will never forget it as long as I live. Humboldt County got rid of evidence either on purpose or by accident and I don't know if the knife got to San Bernardino or not. It's just like something I have to know. I have to know what kind of knife it was. He said it was from his marine corp days, maybe that's why I can't find it.

Thanks.

I'll play...

If the blade was around 6 inches long, it was a REKAT Hobbit Warrior. If the blade was closer to 8 inches long, it was an Al Mar Warrior.

Dann, if it was an Al Mar Warrior, this kid would me chopped up in shreds just by looking at the knife!

Here is a photo of the REKAT Hobbit Warrior.

I dunno...I had one of those monsters (satin blade) and it didn't scare ME too much.:D.

What is this, Crime Week at Bladeforums?

The description sounds like any of dozens (maybe hundreds) of sawback survival knives. Most of them have hollow handles, but not all.

Can you provide another hint?

Someone asked for a link to prove that I was telling the truth about this SK so here are a couple. The one knife that is pictured on this thread isn't it. It has too much of a curve, it's too short and the back edge isn't nearly as sharp, deep and distinct looking. I really do appreciate your help, because I've search websites and books and looked at hundreds of knives and can't find one that's close. Anyone have any links to sites that might carry something along those lines that I can look at? Thank you all. Sorry I didn't mean to cause a fuss really. Just frustrated and trying to find answers.

Book Description

Claiming he'd been sent by God to confess, truck driver Wayne Adam Ford walked into the Humbolt County Sheriff's Office and admitted to them that he was a serial killer. After police found a gruesome piece of evidence in Ford's pocket, he told them that he had to be stopped before he killed again, before he murderer his ex-wife, and made his beloved three-year-old son an orphan. Authorities arrested the long-haul trucker and listened in horror to his startling confession...

Ford was a long-distance trucker who had traveled fourteen western states. Prowling the highways in his big rig tractor-trailer, he picked up young, vulnerable women and then raped, killed, and dismembered them. He scattered some of their bodies in waterways along the road. He kept parts of others for over a year in the freezer of his trailer home. Learn the shocking truth in this chilling account of madness, depravity, and murder...

This site has a copy of a letter he thought he was writing to me, but he'd been tricked by the guy who runs the site.

Although personally I think your story is suspect, especially with this "prosecutor" recently showing up, I'll still give you the benefit of the doubt.

Could it be something like the M9 Bayonet on this page?

Here is a bunch of popular survival knives from the 1980s. Does anything look familiar?

Wow those pics take me back. I actually had a Jungle King. Frost and Parker Cutlery made some decent survival knives back in the 80s. Made good knives in general, now I think they just import Chinese junk.

I remember the review in SOF about the Jungle King, showed them using the slingshot feature, cuting edge for its time.

Yes, these knives look much similar to the one he had. I'd have to say the Buck Buckmaster mod 184 looks the closest overall. The Aitor Jungle King I's blade is more of the right length and shape. The sawback spines of the Gerber BMF are closer to the kind on his knife. The sawback spines were all along the edge like on the Cox Fierce Blood 10. At least I now know better search words to use and I also know to check the year the knife was made. He had been killing women for 13 years in 1998 begining right before he was kickout of the Marines. So 1985? He said it was his Marine Corp knife which match the ones you posted. He claimed he dismember an entire body with that one knife. The original detective in the case said it was a buck knife, but I hadn't seen any that were anywhere close. The one you posted was very similar if you made those changes as I noted. Thanks so much! That helps a lot.

So where do I look on the web for more pictures of this type of knife from the 80s? Not the regular knife sites I've been looking at obviously. And is it better to say sawback spines? Is there a way of describing them to emphazise the way the spine is cut?

This case has been dragging on for seven years and the teams for and against him have changed two or three times already. I'll be so glad when this is finally over. Thank you so much!

But, Dann, we're knife knuts. We use knives like that in the kitchen every day. :p
