I wonder if I am the only one who notices knives while I'm watching tv? I doubt it, I know there are others like me with knives on the brain. More often than not though, I cannot identify what it is exactly that I'm looking at. So I thought that I'd consult the fount of knowledge of my fellow forumites. Maybe we could make this a game and try to stump our buddies.

I'll start with this old Irish Spring ad. Some of our more esteemed members (i.e., old farts) might remember it.

Here's a more recent commercial from Levi's.

Easy, first one is a spear point, second is a clip point...

Sorry, I got nothing past that. :grumpy:

Man those Irish are hairy buggers.

Since McTurtleneck's hand fully covers up the handle, I am going to guess and say dogleg jack with spear point blade. :D

I'm not sure about the knives... the first one might be tear drop or barlow.... but that Levi commercial reminded me of when kids cut holes in the knees of their pants. :p ...Now they're worn out before you buy them and you have to pay extra.

Funny you bring this up, ..... I was watching a show called Auction Hunters just the other day, Allen and Ton travel around buying storage lockers. Allen takes out a knife to open a box. and the first thing that ran through my head was ...."thats a Cold Steel AK-47"

In King of the Hill, Hank teaches a group of boys how to use a scout knife (cartoon but still a traditional knife), and is not worried when his son cuts himself "Yep, you cut yourself". Good time for first aid training!

On That 70's show the son is given his grandfathers knife when he leaves for Africa. I do not recall what kind it was.

A Toothpick is used to threaten Angela Landsbury et al in "Bedknobs and Broomsticks"

I can't remember the other 2-3 times I've noticed a slipjoint while in front of the tube, but always am on the lookout.

That Irish Spring must've been some soft soap judging by the way he's able to cut through it....sure it isn't cheese:D:D

Could be a large Grandad Barlow??

As for the Levis, it must be a Loom Fixer!

I'm gunna bet one a nice Camper for the Irish Spring one, Cant see anything but the blade and there aren't any markings on it so any guess is a good guess.

As to the Levi's I have a feeling it's a Buck. Something about the way that Clip point is ground yell Buck to me.

I was making a tongue in cheek stab at it. I did do a search and they seem to have used a different knife each commercial in the series. I noted at least 3 different blades.
If I were to make another stab...Easy Open Imperial or Case

On 48 hours on investigation discovery a guy was over dosed on his own drugs and murdered. In the actual police photos there is a wenger SI laying by the heroin on the table. Yea I'm different and love watching actual real life murder shows.

yeah i watch for knives too, i saw the host of man vs food with a spyderco military and a guy from storage wars whip out a fully serrated spyderhawk.
good luck identifing those blades, i cant even tell what hes doing with that clip point blade ;)

If the levi's knife is a buck the long pull means it was made by schrade or camillus for buck. The irish spring knife does look like an EO imperial but that might just be the whole irish connection that's influencing me.

Watching Backdraft and De Niro uses a Buck Stockman to scrape fire residue of a wall in a scene.

I had to chuckle at the Irish Spring commercial, I remember when it aired and we used to make fun of it. Yep, old fart here :D

I'm not that good at identifying knives yet, but I'm pretty good with watches on TV/commercials/movies. I wonder if there is any source for that info, I know a guy who has a database of watches in movies on the web, maybe there's one for knives?

Cheers,
Griff

I was just realized that the woman in the Irish Spring ad is Lacey Underall from Caddy Shack!! Sorry not knife related.

Edit to add knife related subjet matter; Barry Pepper has a 110 lookalike in Snow Walker. Brass bolstered lockback.

Heh.

I find myself guilty of making the wife a little crazy with noticing knives in TV shows and movies.

Hey -- rewind that -- it looks like he's using a Kershaw Wingnut!

*Sigh*

And I get the look.

Oh, well.

:D
