Check out the smaller of the 2 blades on this dialex image... a few questions:

what would this type of pivot be called? a hollow pivot??

are there currently any knives, whether they be custom/factory, that use such a mechanism?

could this be sandwiched between 2 liners?

when done so, would lockup be secure with, say, a liner lock??

thanks!

Larry

That looks like a bearing set up to me. Possibly just a couple bushings, one fixed to the handle on each end, one free sandwiched between the handles, and then the blade fitted over that. The Gerber Chameleon already has a set up like that, it utilizes a bolt action lock.
Basically your making the pivot area huge, but it doesn't seem like it would effect the other mechanics of the knife. I think you could make it a liner lock, but you would probably have a pretty poor blade to handle ratio .
