I was at a local store today and seen a Spyderco knife that was about the size and shape of a Delica. It looked a little smaller than a Delica and the hump over the round hole was not raised up as high. It also lacked the boye dent so I assumed it was a discontinuted model. It was fully serrated and had SS handles. Then I opened the knife blade out and noticed that it was made of ATS-55 steel which is comparable with VG-10 correct? Anyways at 72 dollars I decided against buying but I'm thinking I should have... did I make the wrong choice  . I should have taken a picture of it since I had my camera phone but it slipped my mind... would have made this question alot easier. It kind of reminded me of a Police model that had been scaled down. So if you happen to know which one it is do you think its worth 72 dollars or is it way over priced.'

Edit: It also was in a type of box that I hadn't seen before it looked white or an off white color with Spyderco in blue on the top.

That would be a rookie and that sounds like a good price. Was it PE or SE?

I think that it might have been a Rookie, as well. I think that the Standard only came out with G10 scales, not SS.

The Standard was available in SS in the same profile. C05 on my site is an Economy (SS Standard)

Ted, you misspelled Anniversary ("Anniversery" @ C76) on your webpage, I thought you might want to fix that.

I dont know for sure but I have never seen one.

In the picture above it looked just like the second one down. I guess that means its a Rookie. It was a really nice looking knife.... a bit small for my tastes but still a great looking knife. When did Spyderco quit making that model? I believe that knife to be the same one I saw about 7 or so years ago when I picked up my first Spyderco knife which was the Police. I was surprised they still had it... I guess most people in my area don't care for the look of Spyderco's.

Bodieism, the Rookie was introduced in 1998 according to the "through the years" listing in the dealer catalogs. It appears in the Spyderco 2000 catalog, but not in the 2001 version, so I'd have to guess it was retired around then. It is a very nice design, but, given the choice, I'd take the Calypso Jr over it because of 50/50 choil.

It's hard to tell why some models don't catch on. I would guess that part of the problem is than many dealers carry only a few models and tend to stick to the "best sellers". The name may have been a factor too, "Rookie" does not evoke the same images of professionalism and competence that "Police" does.
