I had the very good fortune to to receive a very special 98 ppp Texas camp knife from the foremost luminary of yhe genre Waynorth himself. I'm honoured that you thought of me at a very busy ,enjoyable mission to the knife show a couple of weeks ago ,mate.
Between us he just sent me one because unlike a jet engine I never stop whining. Thats an aussie joke.
There was a 'no hurries' payment inclusion.
'How nice' I smugly thought. Then bla bla speeding ticket...bla bla bla...personal financial crisis..bla bla...browny point level red and beeping...
Alls well that ends well....or so I thought.

Because ...
I hereby announce ...
The 'Official Texas Camp Knife Name Off'
Thats right see that shield?
Thats where your knifes name goes.
Not your name .
Your knifes cool old school name that YOU named it.around the campfire of the internet.
But be warned.
Choose wisely.
For once engraved it can nay be unengraved.
If there even is such a word.
Now even though I thought of the idea and a name first I thought it would be great if Charlie were to have inaugural naming rights on the naming of the first name of the .....so come on.
Name your 98
Yours faithfully
Mighty Eagle

Naming my two Texas Camp Knives was easy.

The Cranberry Jigged Bone is called "Big Red" for obvious reasons. (There's even a Texas soft drink of the same name, but I prefer to think of Man O' War. Big. Classy. Fast. A true champion. And, of course, Red.)

The Antique Yellow Jigged Bone is called "Old Yeller" after its Texas roots (for those old enough to remember the book and Disney movie. And, yes, I cried too when I saw it . . . and the knife. It's perfect!)

The name for the Burnt Orange Texas Camp Knife should probably relate to the University of Texas at Austin since burnt orange (and white) are their school colors (Longhorns? Hook'em Horns?)

But, on the other hand, the Virginia Tech Hokies here in the Old Dominion also claims the burnt orange color (along with Chicago Red) and the Camp Knife is a marvel of technology. (Hokie? What's that, you may ask. According to Johann Norstedt, now a retired Virginia Tech English professor, "[Hokie was] a word that people used to express feeling, approval, excitement, surprise. Hokie, then, is a word like 'hooray,' or 'yeah,' or 'rah.'" and as such perfectly expresses my emotions of approval, excitement, and surprise when I first saw this incredible knife.)

Other ideas?

The nicknames that come to mind for such a fantastically-huge knife are:

"Big Bertha" German Howitzer

"Little Boy"

"Fat Man"

"Old Ironsides" (are the bolsters steel?)

Hm, what should I name my cranberry 98... Let's see, a Texas knife living in Arkansas, sporting red clothing, big, burly, and long in the tusk... Only one answer....

RAZORBACK

Take that Texas...

WOO PIG SOOIE!! :D:D

I don't have a #98, but I have been looking for an Arkansas traditional for a while (along the lines of the Buckeye Trapper with the Ohio shield GEC did a while back). Haven't come across anything, but I did find a place online where I can get this shield...

...so I may just have to get one of these skilled fellas we have around to do some work for me. Red scales, of course. :D

No Guts No Glory.
My favourite bird and personal totem from my early days is the magnificent Laughing Kookaburra (rhymes with looker).
The worlds largest species of kingfisher it bravely preys on lizards and snakes which in Australia is difficult and dangerous work. The Kookaburra nails it.
That so called "laughter" is nothing of the sort. It is a loud territorial warning to other Kookas to keep out of our airspace and off our turf. The raucous cacophony takes place at dawn and dusk where the clan gathers at a high vantage point and lets rip. It will be answered by another clan up to a mile away and so on like a telegraph system. To me it always sounds like home.:)
So without further ado may I introduce-

Here's an ABC cameraman getting pecked on the nose by one just for scale.

Great name, Meako! (And a brave cameraman!)

I was thinking of Chicken Little!;)

Thank you. I have only ever gotten 2 GEC knives engraved -this one and this one
2013-12-10182007_zps7f2e316f.jpg

Which was my eldest sons 21st present.
I like how the engraver did it- not to flashy or scrolly . I was almost going to go to the laser etch place but that takes days.
My original thought was Charlies Canned Chicken Chomper.. but its just ridiculous.Nor would it fit on the shield.:D
Anyway I see some great names so far.
I've been thinking about starting a club "The Texans And Others Not From Texas Club":)
All you need to join is a 98 with its name engraved on the shield.
Not your name but the knifes name like the name of a ship for instance.
It can be anything you are game to put on there and must not infringe forum rules .
Mighty Eagle
btw Mighty Eagle is MY club name not my 98s.- so that name is up for grabs:thumbup:

A great bird (kookaburra), a great name, and a great knife enhanced with local lore and personal symbolism/meaning.
Great choices all the way around.

PS: Speaking of Burnt Orange, anyone here know who Bevo is?
