Names for your knives?

Just read Tallpaul's post about his new Sebbie. I was especially interested in the fact that he had given the knife a name.

Therefore I think it begs the question: How many of you have named your knives? What are their names?

I have never done so, however, after reading "The Hobbit" with my son I am tempted to call my Sebenza "Sting" after the name Bilbo Baggins gave to his sword!

So what are the names of your "significant others"?

I've only ever named one knife and that was the top knife by Spyderco a Jigged bone Jess Horn, C27 I think, I nick named it `Ricky' just because it reminded me of Ricky...not sure why but just did, it seemed right, it now resides out in Utah with a nice family, if I ever travel out that way I may have to see if I can get some visiting rights!

Funny you mention this as I have named guns before, i.e., 'ol meat on the table, Betsy (when Betsy Barks there's meat on the table), Not So Silent but Deadly and a pet .300 Winchester Magnum called "AT&T" because it "reaches out and touches" but I haven't really taken to naming any of my knives.

You gave me something to ponder.:)

Wouldn't really own up to naming my knives, but ever since that thread I've been thinking of the sebbie and umfaan trio as the three bears. Don't call it that, but just got the Papa bear a couple of weeks ago. Mama's still my favorite, though. Just a mama's boy, I guess.:D

would that make mnandi Goldy Locks? Actually I never named
one of my knives before.... but since you mentioned it it did sound like I make a habit out of it does it not? Never really gave a knife gender before either... I guess I was caught up in the moment! Could you blame me... :D

I have named my large classic MM Sebi 6-50 'Gwaith' which is Welsh for work! Thanks to Nemo for the idea! His is called 'Honour' which is very appropriate!:D

Since getting that Large Wood Inlay Sebenza with the California Buckeye Burl, it is one knife that a name just came to me and it has stuck, Freedom. Sweet knife!

No, it is not a South African word for a new creation by CRK.
It is the name of my 12ga H&R slug gun --
"The Ugliest Gun I The World, Amen", (UGITWA), But oh my, we have put a lot of venison in the freezer.
Kinda like my plain grey....., you know what I mean, I dont think it is the best looking knife in the world, but I have skinned just about everyone of those deer with her and you could not pry her out of my cold dead hand. Think I will name her UGIKWA, the H&R needs a sybling anyway. Just goes to show you beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

That would be too much like naming my... well, you know. That and my knives are two things I want to keep as far apart as possible.:)

robenza,

Although I have not named my knives I think Sting is a great name. I liked it in the Lord of the Rings. FoeHammer, the other sword named in the "Rings" would be good for a large knife.

As much as some of these things cost they should come when you call them by name.

It is not new to give weapons a name. They were doing it long ago and some still do. In the "Short Timers", the book that "Full Metal Jacket" was based on, they had to give their rifles a girls name. That book was far better that the movie. It was a masterpiece and I think it may be out of print.

However if someone sees you having a conversation with your knife...............
