Names on Blades?

Ok I am one of the new guys, and I bet this point has been brought up before and argued before.
But I still would like to understand why "YOU" would want your knife sterile?

Or is just opinion?

I would NOT want my blade sterile. I am proud of my rats and I would prefer all of my blades to have the Swamp Rat logo.

I prefer to have the blades sterile because:
1.) I don't feel I should be used to passively advertise for a company. If someone is interested, I am fully capable of telling them myself. ( I don't mind small unobtrusive stamps, just the big flashy logos )
2.) some really nice knife designs are messed up by the distracting crap on the side of the blade.
3.) If the name of the company sounds or looks agressive, and you use the knife to defend yourself, The opposing lawyer can have a field day asking the jury to ask themselves if your intentions were innocent, why carry a knife named "Deadly Creep Gutter" or some such thing, just to peel apples for children or open boxes at work?
4.) I think most logos are just plain ugly.
5.) I am not stupid. I know which knives I own, and I doubt I will forget the manufacturer of a good, or a bad knife.

Closer to home, it is why I don't plan on buying a Busse, although I would like to. The reality is people who see the "Combat/ dogtag" logo are less likely to be convinced knives are usefull tools and not weapons in the environments I use knives in.

No offence but thats a pretty dumb reason to deny ones self the pleasure of owning a busse. The logo is like half an inch long. Its puny an it barely shows up on black blades. I dont think that is an agressive logo.

Not to mention that Busse offered several "sterile" models as well.

I have to agree with Razor here. I just picked up a War Boar and if I need it someday to defend my life, I really don't think the offender's attorney is going to care one way or the other about whether the War Boar has some logo or model name on its side. I am sure much will be made of the fact that it is called a "WAR BOAR". (OMG, you were just preparing for WAR with my client, weren't you?)

Frankly, I don't care whether it's called the "Warm and Fuzzy Utility Tool" or the "Only a Psycho Would Use This Thing De-animator". When I need it, I need it. Hesitation, or even using just enough force to probably get the job done, gets people killed all the time.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go buy a Streetsweeper (no, that's not a broom!:p )

I personally prefer the logo, because after the dust settles and the smoke clears, and within the rubble when all they find is a charred SR101 blade, they'll still be able to
BLAME PORKERSON!!

:D

The point has been made that some Busses are sterile, a fact I was not aware of. In that case I would be interested in possibly buying one. Razorsdescent, On the surface I might agree with you, however, as the people I work with and live with tend to be extremely narrowminded and have the ability to create an issue over what type of knife I carry and when I can carry it, I have to take everything under consideration. If I lived in a more normal environment, I would agree with you fully.

I don't care if it's marked or unmarked. It cuts the same either way. Besides that, anybody that knows Busse or Rat will recognize it with or without the logo...

Bumppo i dont think it matters whats on a blade, when you pull out a 6-10" blade to open a letter you are gonna get some strange looks. Heck i have had stupid plp freak out when i have used a little SAK to open a box.
I say to hell with thoes plp. Enjoy, and be proud of what u have. LOGO or no LOGO. I would not let a LOGO stop me in getting a great knive.
I guess for me it does not mather if it has a LOGO or not.

The idea that a logo on a knife is going to make you look like a criminal is only sound if you are commiting a criminal act with that knife. It's like the myth that if your gun is stolen and then used in a robbery that the police are going to come looking for you the victim.

"Knife fights" are Hollywood fiction. After seeing hundreds of knife incidents I have learned one thing for sure everyone gets hurt, logo or not. Run like hell and call the police.

Don't deny yourself a fine tool because of other peoples opinion, I sure would not.

Scrapper 6 arrived this evening, cool knife. Sterile...could be NASA over run:rolleyes: , only Dan knows. Won't affect performance, I'm keeping it

Great size blade, huh Scott?

Logo's... I don't really care. It's always a surprise which one I'll get. I do like the little etched logos on the satin Wauseon stuff though. Logo on a coated blade? Again, I don't really care. If it is a user (most tend to eventually become so) then it gets scraped off anyway.

thanks too all for sheding light on the subject

btw
today my dad got his scrapper 6 in the mail, he loves it, and it was sterile
