Yes, the infamous "Green brick of joy". Looking to pick up a new waterstone in the 2-3k region and was eyeing this one due to its reputation of being great on softer stainless and carbon knives that I seem to be sharpening alot of lately. I have two frames of reference here, shapton pro 1000, and King S-1 6000. The shapton is what I call gouge proof, the King gouges if I err and raise the angle the slightest even with no pressure on the blade.

Just dishing fast is not a problem, taking a paper thin slice out of the stone every time I sharpen a double bevel knife is kind of a pain and rather irritating even if it doesn't mess the edge up. The stone will be mostly used as a final honing before the strop, as I really don't like the 6000 king very much.

It's a great stone to finish with but its soft and can gouge easily so you either need to take more care or get a good stone flattener :)

For me its usually the return stroke at the tip that puts small gouges in the stone.

Though its softer (like your king) its a stone you will really like and should not hesitate to get.

I have an old EZ lap fine diamond hone that I use like a nagura before and after sharpening, this tends to keep the king nice and flat, not enough for plane irons but plenty good enough for knives and most chisels. I guess I'll just need to get the green brick and see for myself if I'm compatible with it or not, I could just get a 2k shapton pro but I know I'll like that one, so what fun would that be :p

It's a very slow wearing stone, soft more like the 6k king.

You will like it :)

While CKTG is out of stock on the naniwas I got to browsing around, and found this from JNS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muH11NyAqAE . Any thoughts? It's kind of expensive for a synthetic aoto (around 100 bucks shipped) but one of the most interesting looking synthetics I've seen. I don't have any experience with the finish left by a natural or synthetic aoto in person and videos can only show so much, but how would you say it compares? I do like that it's a very hard stone (unusual for a syn aoto) and has a really nice sound to it.

Doesn't seem bad, actually looks like it works very well. If you get one please let us know your thoughts.
