I had previously thought that water stones would be a chore to maintain and that you needed running water to cover the stone while sharpening. I just read something about how the Naniwa superstone series only needs a few drops of water. So, the question is which would work better for me?
I will do large folders, with a variety of ordinary steels, and the occassional fixed blade up to 8 inches.
Has anyone used both of these? If so, what would you say is the better choice for what I will be suing them for?

Thanks very much.

The waterstones will be more enjoyable and the diamonds will be best for more wear resistant steels and applying a coarser edge with a high degree of sharpness.

Any idea if you would need to do a lot of sharpening before you have to do stone flattening?

Flattening is not the great problem everyone makes it out to be. When it is needed you will know and will only take a few minutes, its easy.
