i managed to bag a napolean sword, after seeing them on this forum. very nice design, very lively in the hand. has a rosewood handle, and love the yinyang symbol. it came so-so sharp, will need touching up (any hints on how to do this??). i did find some black stuff on the blade, but will remove this with rust remover if i can. the leather of the scabbard struck me aswell- very supple, i really cant put it down! even in its so so sharp state, managed to cut through 1inch thick branches. i will post pics if you guys want me to.

Don't worry about the sharpness for now. Even when very sharp, it won't cut particularly well compared to some other designs. It's made for thrusting, which it does very well.

hi
ok, i got some very fine sandpaper and sanded off the black spotches (im not a big fan of mirror polishes, still some black bits, so another go is needed). sanding is my fave method of sharpening aswell- much more tactile, but i use a combi waterstone 100 grit-6000 if i need an edge to trim my beard with:). i accidently swung the sword and bit into the scabbard!!! but i just got some natural hemp string, wove it around the cut, makes for a good grip on the scabbard and disguises my little accident! polished up the rest of the sheath, and the sword- now has my personal touch on it, so to speak (finger marks on sword, no thanks!) pictures follwing soon.

Wicca, is it 31" or 36"? I suspect the latter, as the original shorter ones have not been quite as common. The rosewood sounds beautiful. I have some kind of fruitwood variant on my 31" model that Uncle Bill just called "USA Wood", but it was particularly pretty.

Would love to see pics for sure.

Thanks,

Norm
