I've been EDC'ing a Calypso Jr. PE for a while now at the recomendation of people on the board and I really like it but now I want another knife ;).

The calypso is prooving to be a great knife but it is quite wide when closed and makes it inconvenient to reach into my pocket.

So im looking for another knife in the same price range as the calypso that is narrower with a ~3" blade length. I was looking at the Benchmade 705 it looks perfect except for the price. I was wondering what other suggestions you can give me?

Thanks,
Lyle

You and me both. There are some, but more than I want to spend.
I carry the CalyJr. and I alternate with slipjoints.
What you are describing is exactly what I want.

The Kiwi SS comes close, but I don't really like the Wharncliffe blade and it's a bit too short.

The new Spyderco Kopa (January?) is better, but still almost as wide as the CalyJr, and expensive.

If you're looking in the price range of the Caly why not consider Benchmades Mini-Grip,about the same size as the 705 but a lot cheaper ,or just stick Your Caly in your waistband if pocket space is your only issue. :D

I would suggest the BM856. It is slim, narrow and light. I EDC mine in slacks every day and love it.

I had been looking at that one, how does it fair on the sheeple friendlyness factor?

The thing against it in the sheeple's eyes is that it has a very sharp tip. My mother said it was a frighteningly sharp knife based on looking at the tip alone.

Apart from that, the blade is quite small, very little belly and I think one of the less intimidating blades that I have seen.

But it is black though, but so is the 705.

Also, great value for money.

Check out the Kershaw/Ken Onion Leek.

I have the Rainbow Leek and it's totally cool and very sleek!

Allen.
