Yeah, big-picturewise, Gordon is definitely having an also-ran type year. Bright side is he gets to run in the back of the pack with Kyle Petty and Kyle's a heck of a nice fella!
A family close to mine has an eleven year old boy with stage 4-B Hodgkins lymphoma and he was able to get a slot at Victory Junction camp, which for non-race fans is a medical facility/camp for kids with terminal illnesses or chronic disabilities that was sponsored by the Petty family and supported by the generosity of, among many others, lots of NASCAR drivers. The kids can go there for a couple of weeks to hang out, fish, talk racing, and just have fun being kids - all medical care is provided and the whole thing is free of charge. Despite his crushing schedule mid-season, Kyle Petty personally phoned each kid every day. He may not be the greatest race driver ever, but I respect him and damn near worship the ground he walks on for his compassion, generosity, dignity, and just plain old fashioned class.
