One of my buddies, has been putting up challenges, and I have been attempting each one. This challenge was to build a natural shelter (reflector is permissible) and overnight in it. I edited the video a ton this morning, but its still over 9 minutes. If you want to see a guy suffer, its worth the watch.

Video if you choose...

I also snapped a few pictures, for those who cannot watch videos. (Im nice like that) :)

The wind was too bad (60mph) to be in the woods, so I chose to build my shelter on the woods edge, under this tree.

Getting started.

Done before dark! The grass was 20" deep on top of the other materials.

Becker BK-11 (Thanks Josh!), Maxpedition Fatboy, 21' sven saw

I had a VERY small fire all night long.

Because the high winds made it look like a gas burner!

My view at 630 this morning before packing up.

Thanks for looking, it was a rough night. The wind changed directions early this morning, and the rain soaked me from head to toes (5). It was still a great time.

Way to get out there and do it Bro!! Nice looking shelter.

PS you look good in GOLD Brother!

Thanks for sharing! I've gotta get out and do this kind of stuff more often. I've gotten too used to pulling up with the camper and having everything ready for me.

Cold hard ground is cold and hard, especially on a night like that. But I'd say you got your proof of concept. :p Mad Props for weathering that night, dude.

i need to get a bivy bag sometime... making snow shelters is a lot of fun, igloos in particular. i'm of a mind to make one more in the woods, and stealth it up some, and sleep in that for a night.

sadly, there are some rat punks that live in my 'hood now, that were i to make an igloo out front/side, a process of 4-8 hours depending on help, they would promptly smash the shit out of it. great kids that.

been wanting to make during the summer and fall, but the ticks are REALLY bad lately. i don't want to cuddle with those. feh.

I don't much enjoy getting soaked, but good on you for staying out all night given the conditions.

I enjoyed watching all of it was good, but I especially liked the "I'd like a number 6 with a black coffee." haha Funniest thing to date that I have ever seen in a survival video like this, thanks for making me laugh and go back to watch the end again.

Awesome stuff Josh. You're an inspiration sir. Not a youTube comment, I know, but still, I like ducks. ;)

very cool video, josh. i'm a spam guy but anyone who packs vienna sausages or corned beef is alright in my book! :) what make/model shotgun is that?

as for the reason i watched the video from start to finish? it was your intro "If you want to see a guy suffer, its worth the watch." that honesty is refreshing! i've seen too many videos/posts of guys' overnighters showing it went perfectly with very minimal gear/altoids kit in sub-zero temps when in reality their car is just 10 ft away from where they camped...your video showed even with a carefully prepared gear from lots of experience, it's still not a cake walk! i appreciate the honesty and looking forward to more videos from you, man.

p.s. i like duck :)

Im a spam guy too, but I was out. That is a Remington 870 with a rifled cantilever scope-mount barrel. thanks.

Hey Josh, I just had the chance to watch your video last night - damn man, impressive. I know you mentioned you can't wear the prosthetic due to clotting so I was wondering how you accomplished that. Mad respect!

Good video, and post.
Are you going to post up a gear list with pics? No biggie if not, but I am wondering what kind of Axe you had.
Good job sticking it out all night.
I like ducks
