Dear God,

I pray for all members of BF, that if it be Your will, you heal their infirmities in their bodies, their families bodies, as well as friends and loved ones. I pray that President Obama makes wise choices in leading our great country that is still under God. I pray for the safety of all those men and women who elect to put themselves in harm's way including military, LEO's, and Firemen and women. I pray that our loved ones stop acting up and causing disorder in an otherwise peaceful household. Grant all who travel on business and pleasure Your traveling mercies, to ensure safe passage and return. I pray for Spark and his family for giving me this forum, to say a prayer, on the National Day of Prayer. I pray this in Jesus' name.

Amen.

Thank you for that.

All of us, Believers or not, would be well-served by remembering the history of this day, and why and how it came about.

“Fasting and prayer are religious exercises; the enjoining them an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the time for these exercises, and the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and right can never be safer than in their hands, where the Constitution has deposited it.” Thomas Jefferson, 1808

You are welcome Mr. Noodle.

I was driving my 12 yr. old twin boys to school today. I was ranting to them about their homework not being done. I was also whining about their last minute (1/2 hour before school request for some food stuffs for home ec class). I had my right wing radio talk show on, and a reminder of what this day is. I shut my mouth, my heart went squish, and I prayed with my boys, for me to manage my anger better, and for my boys to be more pro active, rather than reactive. It was a humbling and peaceful experience. My day is adjusted for the better. That is what comes from prayer, a paradigm shift x 100!

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thes 5.

We are going through some tough stuff around here, with my mother in law having breast cancer, her being bipolar and in out of a nursing home, my neighbor telling me he has 3 months to live, on and on. I know also that many others are living lives of "quiet desperation", and facing their own turmoil. Praying and finding things for which we can be thankful makes a big difference not only in the good times, but especially in the not so good times.

Did anyone else find this odd? Why do they call for a day of "humiliation?" The website first attributed the use of this word to Lincoln. Perhaps the word meant something different back then, but now it is akin to shame. Humility is what we're talking about.

To me, the sense of humility is to admit to myself that there are multiple things that I can do better, for myself, family, friends, and even strangers.

Amen. Thank you CJ.

You are welcome Danny. I am gonna teach my kids how to sharpen knives on that Lansky you gave me. It is probably a logical first step to get them used to grits, angles and bevels. Thanks again for that generous give away!
