Anyone catch the first episode of the National Park series on PBS last night? Great history of Yosemite and Yellowstone to start things off. Promises to be a good program. Nice to have something worthwhile to watch for a change.

I missed it! I was so caught up in the Arizona/Indianapolis game that I forgot all about it. I love the National Parks System and the previous work of Ken Burns so I am sure the series will be great.

I watched it. Very high quality as Ken Burns is known for. He has such a great story telling manner. I can't wait for the rest of them.:thumbup::thumbup:

A little different than I expected. I thought I would see a lot of nice video of the parks. Maybe in later episodes. The first one gave a historical account of the origin of the parks and how the parks are our (people of the US) parks. Apparently no one cared about preserving them except John Muir, General Sherman and another guy whose name escapes me. I am glad they did. Much of the commentary was by a Sierra Club official. Hopefully when I want to carry my knife, gun and firesteel into my park, and act responsibly of course, the Sierra Club folks will understand.

Don't count on it.

I am also concerned about such issues. I generally stay away from national parks because of the level of regulation. I'm glad those areas are preserved and protected from development but the level of regulation can be pretty high in some. I prefer the lowest level of regulation that will accomplish the objective of preservation.

I thought it was great. Especially liked the history of John Muir. Pretty fascinating guy. I'd read some of his books, but didn't know his full history.

The background on Muir was my favorite part of the program.
