any restrictions to blades there? how about on the AT?

length, type, concealed/open issues, etc?

thanks!

What park? Knife laws differ greatly per state, these are no blanket regulations.

even in the National Forest? I had assumed they would have a blanket set of laws, bein national and all.

Hrmm... Virginia then.

:)

Without going into detail (which I can do if you request):
If you carry your knife, no matter the size, in an open manner you should be in the legal clear. Just act within reason, dont carry around a "tactical" black machete with blood groves....haha.

i was thinkin 7'' blade carried on my belt (ie CS Bushman)

open mannor is ok then.

i would like details if you wouldnt mind providing them.

My pleasure.

Virgina is a state that strongly favors open, versus concealed, carry of knives. Folding knives may be carried concealed, but case law has expanded what a "weapon" is with regards go folding knives. If the knife has "weapon like" features it can be considered to be knife. This VERY VERY VERY strong precedent for the same distinction to be made for fixed blades as well. As such carries in Virgina should make sure that their blade does not have what may be considered to be "weapon like" features. Bowie knives and machetes are pretty clearly barred from legal carry.

On Weapon like features. If your blade is advertised as a manner killer do not carry it. A prosecutor will use that same advertisement to great success in proving that your knife is specifically designed as a weapon. For instance, a "Tactical" knife would be a mistake. The Jim Wagner "Reality Based Blade" would have you thrown into jail. Just FYI: Auto knives are completely illegal for carry, as are balisongs (butterfly knives).

The CS bushman is a very basic looking blade and should be fine. Stay safe!

I know my neck of the AT and the Bushman would be of little use to me. I'd go for a Mora ( actually cuts ) + a folder (SAK or anything with 2.5" blade) for small tasks. Be sure to pack BEAR spray as that's more useful on the AT than a 7" knife is likely to be on our furry friends.
