Native 5 FRN tightness?

Hello everyone,

I just got my Native 5 FRN in the mail few days ago, so far I am really impressed with the knife. I didn't make the wrong choice for my first EDC. However, the blade seems a bit tight. The first time I tried to open the blade, it required some strength to open. After a few days of playing with the knife by opening it more than 20 times, it got a bit better. Even now, I still need to use some strength to open the knife with the thumb hole. Is this the nature of the lockback system that makes it harder to open? Should I loosen the pivot point by a bit? Thanks.

Get the right torx bit , loosen the pivot until it is very loose, open and close few times and then tighten the screw to your liking

I wold try a light lube first. Lube the knife and use if for awhile. This may be all that is needed. A lockback should open freely. I may simply need to be used and lubed.

As mentioned check blade pivot screws for being too tight. Other than that just use it and it'll break in.

I think Native 5 pivot uses bushing (?). If that's the case, pivot shouldn't be the culprit. I'd suggest just use it and it will wear in by time.

you didn't state witch version you have! as the FRN native 5 you cannot ajust lock bar pivot tension , on my other G10 5's i always seem to have to ajust the pivot screws as to give the blade smooth lockup and up/down movement, they also brake in a little after some time!after all, this is a lockback, but a grate little knife.

The G10 natives do use the pivot bushing. The tightness of the pivot should have no effect, but sometime the washers might be just a little too big. Carefully sanding them down can remedy this.

I'd start with a few drops of some real light weight reel lube. I like the Penn fishing reel synthetic that I can get at Wally world with another can of reel grease for about seven bucks. It kicks around in the kitchen junk drawer and comes in handy for all sorts of sticky and squeaky things like hinges or locks.

Should loosen up with time.

Exercise it while watching football tomorrow. Probably be perfect by the time the game ends.

I have 2 Native 5 Lightweights and they were both a little tight from the factory. I am not actually sure if they are tight, as I think it is the spring for the lock-back. Both of mine have very heavy springs that seem to push on the lock-bar a lot. I like it though.
