Has anyone actually checked and know what Rockwell hardness the Native 5 is running?
Inquiring minds want to know.
:)

Spyderco does not release that data. Someone would need to test their knife.

Yep, I wish they would. I was hoping that someone with access to a hardness tester might have done it. My Google foo was unable to get the information. It was supposedly reported to be in the Rc 67 range.

I just had mine tested. 68.9 and 69.2 on two separate tests. Highest tested to date! Pretty cool to think that there's a possibility that I own the hardest production knife in the world at the moment!

Edit: My buddy has a Manix at 69.1. It sures seems like Spyderco has figured this stuff out!

Thanks for the update! I just ordered one to try!

I have a couple maxamet blades and used them enough to not have any more curiosity about its toughness.
Just thought you had something specific in mind.

I’m with you on m4, m390 not so much.

Nice hardness. Now lets see a test of toughness.

Are you talking about toughness or edge stability? Toughness is obviously low. You just can't expect that out of a 65+ HRC extremely high carbide steel. That's not what it's made for. It's made for edge retention purely. Now, if you're talking about edge stability or strength (resistance to chipping/rolling), it's surprisingly high. I've never had a roll and only chipped it once due to my stupidity. I've carried the hell out of it a made like 6 videos on it if you'd like to watch my experience with it. It's my #1 favorite steel that I've ever tried.

I’ll have my Native5 Maxamet (and a few more) tested in September in the lab of Zwilling JA Henckels. I will post the results here ;)
