Native 5 Salt Lock Question

Recently took receipt of a new Native 5 Salt in MC. Great knife and my 6th Spyderco, but first Native.

When the blade is deployed I get a sharp “snap” when the lock engages. It’s very satisfying. My question is with the blade going back to be folded up. After I disengage the lock and push the blade back in, I have to manually push the blade back to its closed position. Sometimes my inertia of closing the blade shuts the blade.

Now is this normal? When I try to ope. The blade just a tad, the blade will stay open and not get sucked back in the handle. Sort of what I’m used to with a detent or a “Axis” lock. When you pull the blade out just a fraction the detent or spring will return the blade back into the handle whereas the Native 5 is manual. I know there is no detent and I assume the spring leaf for the lock is for the LOCK only and not to return the blade to the handle with any force. Correct?

I hope this makes sense!

The spring pushes on the lockbar, the lockbar presses on the blade tang, so the spring should close the blade from about 15° to 20° open. It sounds to me like either there is grit in the mechanism or something is too tight.

This, flush with WD-40 and lube after(I prefer Ballistol) and try playing around a little with the pivot screw.

You guys were right. I took the knife apart. It was dry. Almost no oil. The pivot point on the back lock was extremely dry and almost wouldn’t come out. After some work, I oiled the knife up on all points of contact and where needed. Knife works as intended now. The blade snaps back into place when slightly opened. Blade does favor the show side now, but doesnt rub the scale or anything. Good enough for me!

Thanks all

Great knife, enjoy it! Have had mine in LC200N clipped to my bathing suit while swimming in the Galapagos, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, etc. It’s my vacation swim knife.

Was in the Bahamas with it last week…
