Native 5 vs Manix 2?

Hello everyone,

I have been looking for my first EDC, and finally narrowed to those two.

To be specific, the knives are Native 5 FRN CPM S35VN, and the Manix 2 G-10 CPM S30V. Are there any differences between the two? Thanks.
 
Big differences.

The Manix 2 G10 is over 2x the weight of the Native FRN (5.2oz vs 2.5oz) and has a longer blade (3.4" vs 3").

A better match would be 'Manix 2 G10 vs PM2 vs Native G10' or 'Native LW vs Manix 2 LW'.

For me, anything over 4oz is to heavy and the extra width of the Manix makes it a pocket hog and rules it out completely.

I also find the PM2 a bit too big for the pocket I used to think it was a bit too heavy but have changed my mind.

So, for me, the Native is just about perfect. I picked up a Native G10 off the Exchange and really like it, even better than the Native FRN.

BTW, if the 40%-off code 'Forum2015' still works on Spyderco.com, the Native Forum 2015 in S90V is a good deal.
 
The code no longer works,native 5 frn is very nice foraall the reasons mentioned above,manix is a bit big no matter the weight. ..,,,..sage is where its at,be nice to have some of steel variants other than s30v.though
 
It's strange that everyone on reddit recommended the manix 2, while you guys recommend the native 5. I think I will go with something smaller for my first EDC, most likely I will get the native 5.
 
The manix 2 lw's are really nice ive never had a native but I really like the caged ball lock on the manix vs a lockback on the native. If you like that you may want to look the at the delica which is a lot of peoples all around edc knife.
 
manix 2/G10/S30V is a bit heavy at 5.2oz!a nice EDC would be ether the native FRN or G-10 modal or even stretch 2 FRN with its steel liners is a good light weight lockback EDC friendly folder.
 
Tough call. I prefer the lock and size of the Native but I prefer the ergos of the Manix. They are both great. For what it's worth though, I prefer the Delica to both.
 
I don't think I will want a big folding knife for my first EDC, so I will probably go with the Native 5. Thanks for the all suggestions though.

Holding them in your hand will tell a fuller story. Any Spyderco dealers near you? Don't see your location, but if you were in Michigan I'd be happy to let you handle both of those models back to back to see for yourself which would fit your needs better. I enjoy both models, but for different reasons and slightly different uses. Both are great ambidextrous operators.

I know the best way to find out the differences is by actually holding the knives, but I don't want to just go to the stores to just try the knives, and leave. Thanks for the comments though.
