Native 5 vs Persistence

Love my Native 5 G10 but love my Persistence more. Wish the Native 5 didn't have the lower choil . The more blade the better.
Can't always get want you want.

I've owned both the Native-5 LW and Persistence. I've since sold them both, but of the two, I'd take the Native every time.

I should explain. I would like the Native 5 a whole lot more if it didn't have the lower choil like the Persistence. I just don't think it is necessary. It takes away from precious blade length.

I have XL hands, so I really like the Native 5s finger choil. It's such a fantastic knife overall!

I have lots of knives that have lots of usable blade surface, but very few knives that carry well and feel good in my hand like the Native.

Blade length would be the same with or without the choil. It's the cutting edge that is shorter due to the choil. However, the choil allows the user to choke up on the knife for more precise cuts while maintaining a margin of safety. Think of the portion of the choil on the blade as being part of the handle of the knife instead of a part of the blade. When you look at it that way, the design is ergonomically ingenious.

While I see your point, I don't agree. In my opinion, the amount of edge length you'd get back in return is insignificant compared to the ergonomic advantages of having a 3" blade that can fit a wide number of grips and hand sizes because of the 50/50 choil.

There was a model based on the Native with a 4" blade. Forget the name right now.

This falls in the same category as asking for a Persistence with a more wear resistant steel.
Somehow it seems to turn into an argument.
