Native 5 ???

It can be had for a lot less if you are willing to get one with FRN handles otherwise the G10 is well worth the price. The Native 5 is a great knife!

I filled up the gas tank on my truck the other day. It cost $90 and will take me about 320 miles. I bought a $90 Manix2 in January and it is still in my pocket. I hate buying gas, but I love buying knives. That is how I justify it.

The next time you feel the urge to buy a 30-50 dollar knife, resist and put that extra money aside in a safe or another bank account. You'll be surprised how quickly you save up enough to buy some nice stuff.

Its a great knife. I know a lot of people love the frn handles, but I don't. I prefer the steel liners for the extra structural support and I prefer the g10 because I can then make my own handles and make the knife my own. You can't do much with the frn handles.

I would get it now at 120-130 while you can. I see then going up in value because Spyderco can't meet customer demand on a lot of their knives....Southard, Para 2, Native, etc.

Native5 is a great knife. Currently I own about 75 knives, mostly Spydies. Native5 is used the most. Actually I have four different Native5. But if you feel that N5 is too expensive and you are not sure that it worth the money, than do not buy it.

Yup...native 5 is a sweet knife. I also have 2 N4 in CF....I have roughly about 150 Spydercos, and 200 others....But I just wish Spyderco package their higher end knives in pouches, like how BM does theirs.

It's a great little knife. Mine came in a week or so back, and I have really enjoyed using it.

I miss my Native 5. I traded it for a Caly3 and really regretted it. I think I'm going to pickup one of the special editions to come out.

how do I justify dropping 120-130 bucks on it???

I asked that same question when I bought my first custom, $580 later it was water under the bridge. For what you get, it's a decently priced knife. It fits the handle like a glove.

I have the standard Native S30 FRN. No complaints... I do like the Native 5, but after I purchased the Tenacious (gift) for a friend- It changed my mind. I want another Tenacious! Don't be fooled regarding where it is manufactured. It will split hair. Top notch quality.

Don't take this the wrong way as I really like just about any Spyderco Knife ~~ but over a $100 for a Native-- hxll no ~~ not when I have a Native with 154 Steel that will cut anything I want it to cut and I only have $55.00 in it so I bought 2 more for either presents or give a ways or whatever and I sure could not do that with the 5 .!!**
{ besides I would pick one of my Acid Etched Dragonflys before I spent that much for a N5 anyday.*}

how do I justify . . . ?

You do like Captain (then Ensign) Kirk did when facing the Kobayashi Marun scenario - he made a paradigm shift and changed the rules of the game. In other words, maybe lose the the notion that you need to justify anything. Its your money, your knife and your pocket. None of that requires justification.

Plus, in 5 years of 65 years, your body is going to be decaying in the earth and it won't matter one bit whether you spent $120 on a knife way back in 2013.

:)

Heh, leave it to Powernoodle to bring a nihilistic observation to a knife forum. ;)

well, it's true that most of us don't get the chance to leave much of a long-lasting or important legacy.

I picked up my Native 5 for less than what you have listed, but I can say it is a very nice knife. At first I was underimpressed, but once I started using it I realized it is a lot of knife in a small package.
