Native American Heritage and the Spirit of Adventure: Case Canoe (62131 CV and SS)

Excellent review as always. Fascinating film clips of the lost art of birch-bark canoe making. Believe me, no-one in my family or circle of friends has even the slightest clue as to how to build one. Sad but true.
As for the knife, I have just discovered the pattern and plan on acquiring some more in the near future, your vid convinced me to go for the Case next.
 
I love my Case canoe, it's the perfect size, my favorite patter for a pocket folder. I like the shape and look of an Elephant toe/sunfish but they seem quite large compared to the canoe.

There are still quite a few bark canoe builders here in Canada. The Commanda family has been building canoes since the 19th century, they are Algonquins, mainly from Quebec. There is also Henri Vaillancourt in the US who studied under the Commanda family and many more Canadian First Nations builders. Here is his site. He makes wonderful canoes.

really good review from my favourite pattern. This made me pull out my case CV canoe ambernone and red barnboard SS. Though I prefer single back spring canoes over two springs, Case does canoes rather well. In my shock I had to clean my CV canoe due few minor rust spots.

I went and dug out my old carry canoe, a carbon steel Queen Classic. It fits the pocket so nice, and holds a great edge.
