Greetings,

Where can I purchase Native American Indian Feathers, bone, and those metal foil wraps for Tomahawks?

Thanks,

DP

It is very difficult to obtain Eagle feathers in Canada. Most if not all zoos and bird rehabilitation centers specifically save eagle and some decorative hawk and owl feathers for native bands. It is fairly routine along roads though to find birds such as pheasants, hawks and owls that have been hit by cars. Grab the tail and wing feathers off one of these and you'll be all set.

Specialty shops that cater to anglers that tie their own flies often have numerous and exotic types of feathers available. If it's authenticity you're going for you'll have a tough time but if decoration is the primary goal visit a game farm and keep an eye out for shed feathers (Stanley Park in Vancouver, for instance, is lousy with goose, duck, pheasant and peacock feathers begging to be retrieved from shorelines, long grass and bushes.)

We can't use any raptor feathers here in the US. Better check the laws in Canada pretty close.
Natural barred turkey feathers look pretty good.

Yes you have to watch your laws with any raptor feathers ... it can carry a hefty fine. Turkey Pheasant Grouse can all look good and you could probably find them online if you search ... I know my uncle used to years ago.

If you have any hunt clubs in your area check with them they may be willing to give you some.

I was told you have to earn an eagle's feather.

Needless to say I don't have any.

I know this is restating the obvious, but google it. There are websites/businesses that cater to the rendezvous crowd. I am afraid to post links. Dad met some people once who were dying white tame turkey feathers to look like eagle feathers. They eventually got reported and investigated as someone thought the feathers were real. The little foil wraps can be found in the craft department of most big box stores.
